Schwitzkasten

________________________________________

“Schwitzkasten” was a theater performance and exchange project realized between January and June, 2011. It involved a group of teenagers with mixed abilities who met once every week in the Esther-Weber Schule in Emmendigen, Freiburg (Germany). Through regular meetings, the teenagers discovered each other in dance and improvisation exercises that engaged their physical, emotional and cognitive limits. They were encouraged to reflect on their own ideas of “normality” and on the surrounding society: what is normal and not normal for those we understand as “disabled”? And also for those who are “able”? How large is the pressure around us and how is it felt?

Out of this process, an original performance: “Schwitzkasten” was created and presented in Theater Freiburg in June, 2011.
